how Lugnaquilla got its name!
It is said by locals that "Lugnaquilla" is gotten from "log na coille", meaning "the hollow of the wood". The "hollow" might refer to a place called "Crossrahnyeen hollow", near the "Ow" River, which flows off Lug. This is not unusal as a lot of the placenames of upland areas in South Wicklow are gotten from the surrounding geographical feautres or from local family names! The local people all have different varients of how the mountain got its name but the fact that it is taken from the surrounding geographical features is the most likely answer, i got this suggestion from talking to a local person in the nearby town of Donard Co.Wicklow!! I also got the same explaination from a few other people and did some research on it so it is most likely correct...!!!:):):)

Weather on Lug Na Coille!!!
Lug na Coille can be a dangerous mountain to climb because it is not unusual for thick fog to descend suddenly on it, and mountain rescue by helicopter is not unknown to many of its climbers! It also tends to be very slippy due to the heavy rainfall over it throughtout the year. There is an added danger in the winter as all of the rain that gathers in puddles freezes creating thick ice on a lot of the mountain, snow is also almost guaranteed on the top of lug na coille for most of the winter as the temperatures are so low! Even during the summer the weather can tend to be wet and cold as you reach the upper section of the mountain because it is so high up. You will often end up climbing through the clouds as you near the top of the mountain, so it is best to wear raingear and wrap up well!!!

My personal experience of climbing lug na coille!!!
I climbed lug na coille a few weeks ago!! There was lots of ice because it was early January and it was very cold, all of the puddles had frozen and it was great fun breaking up the ice and i even managed to walk across a pool of ice before falling in it because some of the ice was so thick. This showed that it had been extremely cold in that area the night before and that morning! I saw some beautiful views from the mountain, i could see all over Dublin , Wicklow and Carlow! It was a really fun day and I would recomend climbing the mountain!!!:):):)

Lug Na Coille
As a part of a project i have to do in 4th year i have to create a blog! here is my blog.............:)
This blog is all about Lug Na Coille, it is 13th highest mountain in Ireland!!It is the highest mountain in Leinster! Lug is 925meters high!! It is in county Wicklow. On a clear day at the top you can see lovely views of Dublin, Wicklow and sometimes even Wales! The grid reference for lug is "T 037 917" on an OS map. I got the picture shown from "upload.wikimedia.org/.../300px-Peaklug.jpg" it shows the mountain from the peak of camera hill!
